Caravan Service & Repair FAQs
It is recommended to have your caravan serviced every 12 months or every 10,000km you travel, whichever comes first. However, if a lot of your travel takes you off-road, it is wise to have your caravan serviced more regularly due to the increased stress it is under.
Yes, it is well worth servicing your caravan. Regular servicing ensures your caravan is in a safe, working condition and can catch any issues with essential components such as your brakes, suspension and electrical systems.
The average lifespan of a caravan will vary greatly depending on the kind of life it has had. If your caravan sits in your driveway for 90% of the year, is regularly serviced and well-maintained, and you only stay in caravan parks, it can have a lifespan of 20-30 years. However, if you spend a large portion of the year travelling, regularly venture off-road, or neglect your service or maintenance schedule, a lifespan of 5-10 years is much more likely.
The routine should be regular! You will notice service schedules always state time and kilometres, whichever occurs first; this is for a very good reason. If you have serviced your RV and only made a single weekend trip, then put it in storage for 12 months, it is still due for its next service.
Keep records of mileage like a logbook or fuel receipt, or a caravan odometer.
